About · Why Room Five
The floor is not a background. It is the fifth room of the home.
Most homes are described by their walls: the living room, the bedroom, the kitchen, the spaces we move through. But there is another room we inhabit constantly and rarely notice. The floor.
Room Five is built around the idea that the ground is not a background. Our rugs are designed as spatial surfaces, not decoration. They don’t compete with furniture or architecture. They hold space quietly, grounding a room and allowing everything else to exist with ease.
Rooted in craftsmanship and natural materials, each piece is made to feel lived in rather than styled. Surfaces that soften with time, carry movement, and belong naturally to a home.
I started Studio Room Five because I felt that the most important surface in a home is also the most overlooked. This studio is not about trends or fast collections. It’s about designing surfaces that feel grounded now and many years from now.
Every rug we make follows a set of rules.
Rule 01
No fixed centre
Furniture layouts change. Each rug works rotated, shifted or partially covered.
Rule 02
Edges matter more than the middle
Edges are what you see every day, so borders are weighted, not decorative.
Rule 03
Pattern density stays even
Visual noise creates fatigue. Nothing pulls focus from seating, people or objects.
Restraint over excess. Material over ornament. Time over trend.
